STOCK SCANNING AND RANKING SOFTWARE

With Lighthouse Trader you can quickly and easily scan thousands of stocks to find just the ones that meet your criteria. You can specify a simple criteria, such as “show me all stocks that are priced between $10 and $100”, or you can make the criteria as complex as you need by combining any number indicators and operators.

You can perform the scan based on the latest data loaded into the Lighthouse Trader database. Or you can specify any date in the past, in order to see which stocks would have met your scanning criteria on any given date – and then view the charts for those stocks to see what happened after they passed your scanning criteria.

Your favorite stock screening definitions can be saved as “templates”, and conveniently
re-used.

Define Your Stock Screening Criteria

Your scan can be as simple or complex as you need it to be.  It takes just a couple of clicks to define a scan that shows all stocks meeting minimum volume and price levels. Even the most powerful and complex stock scanning criteria are easily created using Lighthouse Trader’s unique drag and drop interface. There is no scripting language to learn.  Your stock screening criteria are displayed graphically, making them easy to comprehend.

Lighthouse Trader provides a toolbox of data and indicators, along with arithmetic, boolean, and comparison “operators” which may be combined to form a stock scanning definition.  Here is a sampling of some of the things you can do with these operators.

Objective

How to do it

You want to screen stocks based on weekly data

Simply drag and drop the “Time Frame” modifier into your scan definition and select “weekly” from this modifier’s list of options.

You want to screen stocks for a condition that occurred several days ago

Drag and drop the “Time Shift” modifier into your scan definition and enter the number of days you want to “back up”.

You want to find stocks that met a certain criteria for at least 3 out of the past 5 days

Drag and drop the “Time Range” operator into your scan definition and enter the number of days to examine, and also the number of days the condition must be true.

You want to find stocks whose 9 day exponential moving average (aka “ema”) is higher than its 20 day ema

Drag and drop the “Comparison” operator into your scan definition. Then drop a 9 day ema indicator onto the “Comparison”, drop a 20 day ema indicator onto the “Comparison”, and choose the “greater than” setting.

You want to find stocks ranked in the top 10% based on their price rise over the past 5 days

Drag and drop the “Subtract” operator into your scan definition and select “ranked in top 10%”. Then drop the “Closing Price” data object onto the “Subtract” operator.  Drop a “Time Shift” modifier onto the “Subtract” and enter “back up 5 days”. Finally, drop a “Closing Price” onto the “Time Shift”.

All of these operators can be combined to form a single stock scanning definition of incredible power and precision. There is no limit to the research capabilities of Lighthouse Trader. And after you have defined your stock screening criteria, you can use Lighthouse Trader’s “backtesting” feature to evaluate the profitability of a trading system, based on your screening criteria.

Rank the Results

Lighthouse Trader displays the results of your scan in table form.  In addition to ticker symbols, this table contains columns, chosen by you, showing any or all of the indicators that you included in your scan.

You can sort the results simply by clicking on one or more column headers in the table, making it easy to find the stocks that interest you the most.

View Charts

Simply double-click on any row in the result table to instantly bring up the chart for
that symbol.

Create Watchlists

You can save the scanning results as a new watchlist.  And you can specify that the watchlist be dynamically regenerated each time new data is loaded into the Lighthouse Trader database.

If you wish, choose one watchlist to define the “universe” of stocks you are interested in.  All charting, scanning, and back-testing will automatically be limited to these stocks.

Real-time Scanning

Lighthouse Trader offers a real-time scanner that can examine several thousand stocks in just seconds. Quickly and easily identify stocks that are experiencing unusually heavy trading volume, stocks that have moved up or down significantly, stocks that are near the top or bottom of their trading range for the day, stocks forming an unusually wide range bar for the day, and more. Use any of the indicators provided by Lighthouse Trader, or create your own indicator by means of the Java™ programming language and the Lightspeed API.

The real-time scanning feature is only available to users who have an account with TD Ameritrade™.
