Stock Screening and Ranking - Example #6

OBJECTIVE: Find stocks whose 50-day average of their daily price range is in the upper 10% of all stocks.

  1. Click the “Scan / Rank” button along the left edge of Lighthouse Trader. This will open up a new scanning window.
  2. You will see the “Available Item” list in the lower left corner of the window. Expand the “Indicators” branch to show all of its members.
  3. Click and drag the “moving average, simple” filter item over to the “Selected Item” list.
  4. You will see the following popup window.

    Make sure “periods in moving average” is set to 50. Click the “must be ranked in the” radio button, choose “top”, and enter “10” in the text field for a percentage.
    Then click the OK button.
  5. In the “Available Item” list, scroll down to the “Arithmetic Operators” heading and double-click on this heading to view all filter items in this group.
  6. Click and drag the “subtract” filter item, dropping it on the “50 sma” filter item in the “Selected Item” list. Just click the OK button in the popup window to accept the default settings for this filter item.
  7. In the “Available Item” list, scroll up to the “Data” heading.
  8. Click and drag the “high” filter item, dropping it on the “subtract” filter item. Click OK to accept the default settings for this filter item.
  9. Click and drag the “low” filter item, dropping it on the “subtract” filter item. Click OK to accept the default settings for this filter item.
  10. Your scan is ready to run. It should look like the following. Click on the following thumbnail to see an enlarged example.

  11. Click the Run button to view stocks that match this scan definition.
  12. The result table, containing all stocks which passed your scan definition will look like this. Click on the following thumbnail to see an enlarged example.

  13. Remember that you can sort the results by clicking on one or more column headers. Thus, if you want to see the stocks with the greatest daily range, just click on the “50 sma…” column heading. Column headings correspond to the labels that appear in the “Selected Item” list when you defined the scan.
