Stock Screening and Ranking - Example #5
OBJECTIVE: Find stocks which have moved up by at least 10% in the
past 5 days.
- Click the “Scan / Rank” button along the left edge of Lighthouse Trader. This will open up a new scanning window.
- You will see the “Available Item” list in the lower left corner of the window. Expand the “Arithmetic Operators” branch to show all of its members.
- Highlight and drag the “%” filter item over to the “Selected Item” list.
- You will see the following popup window.

Click on the “must be” radio button, choose “greater than or equal to”, and enter “10” into the text field.
- Click and drag the “subtract” arithmetic operator, dropping it onto the “%’ filter item in the “Selected Item” list.
- You will see the following popup window.

Accept the default settings and click the OK button.
- Click and drag the “close” data item, dropping it onto the “subtract” filter item. Click the OK button on the popup window to accept the defaults.
- In the “Available Item” list, scroll down to the “Modifiers” heading. Double-click this heading to view all members of this category of filter items.
- Click and drag the “Time Shift” filter item, dropping it onto the “subtract” filter item. You will see the following popup window.

Enter “5” for the periods to shift back in time. Then click the OK button.
- Click and drag another “close” filter item, dropping it onto the “Time Shift” filter item. Click the OK button to accept the default settings for this filter item.
- Click and drag a second “Time Shift” filter item (from the “Modifiers” group), dropping it onto the “%” filter item. In the popup window, enter “5” for periods to shift back in time. Then click the OK button.
- Finally, click and drag another “close” filter item (from the “Data” group), dropping it onto the new “Time Shift” filter item. Click the OK button to accept the default settings for the new filter item.
- You have now defined a scan that will compute the change in closing price over a
5 day period, and express that change as a percentage of the closing price 5 days ago. Your scan should look like the following. Click on the following thumbnail to see an enlarged example.
Click the Run button to see the stocks which increased by at least 10% over this
time period.
