CREATE DATABASE AND CONFIGURE LIGHTHOUSE TRADER

If you haven’t already started the Lighthouse Trader application, do so now by double-clicking on the desktop shortcut icon for Lighthouse Trader.You can find additional help with starting the Lighthouse Trader application here.

If this is the first time you have run Lighthouse Trader, it should automatically open up a “Create” window for creating a new empty database. If the “Create” window does not appear automatically, click on the File.New menu item.

Once the “Create” window appears, you will be presented with the terms and conditions for using Lighthouse Trader. You must check the “I agree” checkbox to proceed. Then click the “Next” button.

Several configuration options will now be displayed. For example, “location of database”.  The default settings for these options should be appropriate for most users. You may accept the defaults, or type in new values for the options you wish to change. Descriptions for each option are given in this window to help you understand the choices. Keep in mind that once you have created the new database with these option settings, they cannot be changed. 

After clicking the “Next” button again, several additional configuration options will be displayed. You may set these options now, or easily change them at any time in the future, without the need to create an entirely new database. Descriptions of each option appear on the right side of the window. You may accept the default settings, which should be appropriate for most users.

NOTE: To change these options in the future, click on the Edit.Preferences menu item.

Once you are satisfied with your choices, click the “Create Database” button. This will actually create the directory structure and the database file required by Lighthouse Trader.  It takes about one minute to create the empty database. In addition to creating the empty database, Lighthouse trader will also attempt to automatically download industry group classifications from Yahoo!(tm) at the same time. It may take about three minutes to download all industry group data, assuming you have a broadband internet connection. You can watch the progress of both tasks (creating the database and downloading industry group data) by clicking on the tabs at the top of the windows and viewing the messages.
